Help for Hospitalized Multiples
Posted On June 25, 2021
A friend of mine, MJ Schier, recently had the experience of being hospitalized for a medical condition. Before she went, she made up a file of information to share with her doctors and caregivers while she was in the hospital recovering.
She asked me to share this with you.
The first is a form letter you can fill out and hand to your caregivers and doctors involved in your care to help them understand your needs. Right below that I will post a pamphlet also made by MJ to help anyone who has DID.

Thank you SO much for posting this information! It will be very useful as we face future medical care.
Thank you so much for sharing this information in such a succinct way. I have helped to manage medical care for my dear friend who has DID. I have attempted every time to prepare the caregivers of her triggers and needs verbally and to be noted in her chart. As you know, this can be received in varying ways. I like the professionalism of this letter and may use the format in the future.
The saddest part is that mental health facilities need this information the most. Those who should be most qualified to identify and work with trauma seem the least patient and understanding, expect the most cooperation (in what is often a triggering environment, especially for child alters), and they often force compliance with medications, restraint, and procedures that further complicate our feeling of safety and protection. Every single Emergency room should have specific training for C-PTSD and DID.
I wholeheartedly agree.
