The World is a Beautiful Place
If you looked at the picture I posted as a featured image to this post, you might have scoffed and said, “The world is NOT a beautiful place, it is a terrifying, mean and horrible place!”
I understand. I was once of that opinion, and you are correct, the world can be and is at times a terrifying place.
However, (you knew that word was coming!) if we only pay attention to the ugliness of the world we miss so much!

Yes, there are is ugliness in the world but if we only pay attention to that and never pay homage to what is beautiful, we cheat ourselves.
Like Paula, my long-time therapist once told me, “Wouldn’t it be a shame if you spent all your time being sad and never looked around to see the joy all around you.”
Open your eyes, your ears, your nose, and look around. You’ll be surprised how much a dose of positivity will change your outlook and your life.
Food for thought.
“Beauty can be consoling, disturbing, sacred, profane; it can be exhilarating, appealing, inspiring, chilling. It can affect us in an unlimited variety of ways. Yet it is never viewed with indifference: beauty demands to be noticed; it speaks to us directly like the voice of an intimate friend. If there are people who are indifferent to beauty, then it is surely because they do not perceive it.” ~ Roger Scruton
We live in an area considered a desert and it is ringed by mountains. A source of beauty that I have been missing so far this winter is snow on the mountains around us. It is so pretty to look at, and when it melts through the late spring and early summer, it becomes a source of water for the area we live in. There is snow predicted for those mountains, and some rain for our parched valleys, on Wednesday and Thursday next week, and I am sure hoping it really does come!
Thank you, Shirley! Uplifting!
I’ve gotten a lot of feedback on this post. People can get so caught up in the horror of their past they forget that there is beauty all around them. I’ve been caught up in the mentality that everything and everyone is bad and out to get me. I get it. It took my therapist gently reminding me that, yes, there is evil in the world but oh the beauty! Thanks Lari. Shirley
